Tyros recycles end-of-life rubber tires

Recycling

Tyros bv, founded in May 2024, is an innovative company that recycles of end-of-life rubber tires. In 2025 the company will occupy to a 2 hectare plot on the former UCB site in the port area of Ostend.

Tyros will invest in an electric pyrolysis reactor. The Flemish government is aiding this investment with 1 million euro of strategic ecology funding.  This technology will allow for an annual conversion of 9.125 tons of rubber granulate from discarded tires into primary
components such as Carbon Black, green pyrolysis oil and syngas. These secondary raw materials can  then be used again in various sectors, including petrochemicals, automotive and  ink industry, and the energy sector.

Tyros will be processing approximately 100.000 tons of tires in Ostend annually, 18.000 tons of which via on-site pyrolysis. This will lead to a production of over 5.000 tons of pyrolysis oil and  6.800 tons of Recovered Black Carbon. Both secondary raw materialsthat can be used for circular applications. Compared to burning the rubber granulate, using pyrolysis will avoid about 21.000 tons of CO2 per annum.

The arrival of Tyros strengthens the cluster of the circular industry in the port of Ostend, has a positive impact on employment and will generates additional maritime traffic.
