New West Gypsum Recycling in Kallo, Port of Antwerp, collects plasterboards and plasterboard waste to recycle them into new plaster products. The Canadian company was founded in 1985 and has been active in Belgium for over 10 years. They provide cradle to cradle certified products, fully closing the loop and making them 100% circular. Provided the used products are delivered uncontaminated, plaster can be recycled indefinitely. Every year, about 80.000 tons of plaster waste is created in Belgium. About 50.000 tons find their way to the recycling facility.
New West Gypsum Recycling’s plant is located on the site of plaster board producer Gyproc. This allows to move from plaster waste to recycled plaster board in less than half an hour.
In 2021 New Wes Gypsum Recycling joint forces with Imog and Saint-Gobain for a pilot project to investigate the potential for transport of plaster bord waste from Moen in West-Flanders to Kallo in Antwerp via inland shipping.
