Circular Cluster

North Sea Port, ArcelorMittal and the Flemish Government are developing the ‘North-C Circular’ industrial park together. The 150-ha area is situated on the right bank of the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal in Gent. It will be made construction ready by 2050, providing infrastructure and easy access by road, rail and water. North-C Circular aims at attracting at least 10 circular companies, mainly within 7 spearhead sectors (chemicals, steel, construction materials, energy, automotive, food and feed and logistics).

Emphasis will be placed on:

  • Circular economy
  • Reducing CO2-emissions
  • Energy transiton
  • Industrial symbiosis

These activities are part of North Sea Port’s ambitions to become a climate neutral port. North Sea Port invests in developing and stimulating circular value chains and connecting and supporting actors to build ambitious and diverse industrial clusters.

Brownfield site

A 40-hectare part of the site, Rodenhuize-Noord, was used as a dredging spoil depot from 1970-1980, making it currently unusable. A brownfield covenant was drawn up between North Sea Port, ArcelorMittal and the Flemish Government to redevelop the entire North-C Circular site, including Rodenhuize-Noord.
