BioFertiCol is investing €300 million to build a revolutionary fertilizer plant in the port of Ostend, creating 125 jobs. The plant will be one of the largest suppliers of organic fertilizers in the Benelux, using a fully circular process that eliminates waste and significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. Organic by-products from the food sector will be processed into organic fertilizer for the agricultural sector.
The production process follows a zero-waste principle, with significant CO₂ savings compared to traditional fertilizers. Transport will be mainly via waterways and electric trucks. The facility will use modern techniques to save energy and operate circularly, including biofilters for water and air purification. BioFertiCol collaborates with leading partners in various sectors and explores the use of an industrial steam network for heat recovery. The project supports the European Green Deal goals and positions BioFertiCol as a pioneer in the circular economy of organic fertilizers.
