The Low Lands 2020-2100 – a foresight. Looking for a long-term perspective for action.
Lage Landen 2020-2100 is an exploratory study into the major transitions and the associated spatial challenges and opportunities within the delta area of the Rhine, Maas and Scheldt: the Eurodelta Metropolis. The countries in the delta share their rich history, their favorable location on the North Sea and their unique spatial configuration as a decentralized metropolis.
Today, the world is facing a number of radical transitions in the areas of climate, energy, mobility, agriculture and the circular economy. These global transitions put pressure on the decentralized urban system of the delta. They are a threat, but also an opportunity. What is special about all these transitions is that they have a major spatial impact. Conversely, this means that the transitions cannot realized as long as we do not also understand them as a spatial task.
This publication provides a framework and is an invitation to governments, companies, designers and social actors to bundle knowledge and operational strength. For the Circular Economy, the exploratory study formulated 3 of the 12 strategies for the Low Countries, including the impetus for the issue of Circular Ports.
