The industrial area in Oosterhorn-Zuid, has been renamed Circulands end of 2024. Since 2022, Groningen Seaports an the local governments have invested more than 40 million euro in the cluster. Their aim is to be an inspiration for sustainable industrial parks of the future, focussing on circularity, green chemistry and sustainable energy solutions.
Industrial symbioses will be facilitated by means of a pipeline, allowing companies to share residual flows, such as gas and heat. Circulands will be hosting a number of companies that are active in recycling of e-wast, plastics and wind turbine blades. The two first companies to secure a place for their plants in Circulands, are Sustainable Fuel Plant an Circtec. The park infrastructure will be maximally built with recycled materials and have lots of room for greenery and natural elements. Thus creating a healthy living environment for local residents. Furthermore, references will be made to the rich cultural history of the area.
