‘We retrofit ships with new technology’
Vessels use ballas water to remain stable when they are not fully loaded. As they often cross seas and oceans, this ballast water is contaminated with foreign bacteria, fauna and flora that form a threat to the local port ecosystem.
Engineering firm Royal Roos developed a filtering system to cleanse ballast water, thus improve water quality in the port. They can retrofit the filter into ships, thus refurbishing and adding new functionality to existing vessels. A mobile version of the filtering system is available for vessels and seafaring pontoons that don’t have a proper filter of their own. The company also adds sails and air lubrication systems to existing ships, allowing for lower friction when travelling in the water, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.
