In 1993, Zeebrugge’s fish auction activities moved from its original site in the old fishermen’s port to the inner port, vacating the original buildings that date back to 1934. Ultimatly, the former Fish Auction site in Zeebrugge will be redeveloped, to combine residential housing with commercial and recreational activity. The Seafront Themepark project is set up to temporarily make use of the present infrastructure. It has received a leasehold for the years leading up to the permanent conversion.
Each hall of the building is be dedicated to a central theme.
- Sport quay houses a bouldering hall and a gym.
- Market bank is dedicated to shopping
- Trading quay is home to a chocolate and ice cream shop catering to cruise ship visitors and a secondhand store (Kringwinkel)
- Foodfront houses restaurants and an event venue
As this site is located between the beachfront and the international port, hopes are that the new activities will also bring new life to the neighborhood.
