Stadshavens Rotterdam (City Ports Rotterdam) covers an area of 1600ha and has the ambition to develop into an area with a high-quality business climate. Not only for port and transport companies, but also for innovative companies and knowledge institutes. The largest shortsea hub in Europe is already located in this area. In the near future, container throughput will even double here. Rotterdam profiles itself as a frontrunner in the field of sustainable energy supply and climate adaptation. Stadshavens Rotterdam is a large-scale testing ground where the new technologies are on display. In this way, the city attracts highly educated knowledge workers, often pioneers who try out new trends.

Stadshavens Rotterdam consists of four sub-areas, each with its own profile and development dynamics: Merwe-Vierhavens, Rijn-Maashaven, Wal-Eemhaven, RDM-site/Heijplaat. The Stadshavens structure vision describes the principles within which the development of Stadshavens Rotterdam will take place. Stadshavens is an area development with short-term (2015), medium-term (2025) and long-term (2040) projects. The Rotterdam City Council unanimously approved (September 2011) the long-term trajectory for the development of Stadshavens Rotterdam.
